Rest Stops - Completion of Construction
In 2009, the head of the Roads Department of Georgia commissioned J. MAYER H. to design a system of 20 rest stops for the new highway, a thoroughfare that will run through Georgia and serve as a connection between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey. Two rest stops are now complete, while a third is currently under construction. The new rest stops are located on selected scenic viewpoints along the route and serve as activators for their area and neighbouring cities, including not only nearby a gas stations and supermarket, but also a farmers market and a cultural space for local arts and crafts. Und Zeigt: Selbst strikte Vorgaben der Stadtplaner und Denkmalschützer bezüglich der Masse und Kubatur eines Neubaus im historischen Umfeld lassen noch Spielraum für innovative Architektur. Excerpt from the article, “A New Building Making Waves – Berlin’s secret star architect J. Mayer H. unveils his first project in Mitte, the city’s downtown district (...) JOH3 is the short-hand name for the residential building directly next to the monument-protected Kalkscheune building at Johannisstrasse 3, closing one of Mitte’s inter-building spaces. And it goes to show: even city planner and heritage-protection authorities’ strict dimension- and cubage guidelines for buildings in the historical area leave enough room for innovative architecture. Finalist - European Prize for Urban Public Space
Barcelona, 23rd April 2012 - “Metropol Parasol” has been declared a finalist for the seventh European Prize for Urban Public Space 2012. The Prize is an initiative that the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) co-organises with the Architecture Foundation of London (AF), the Architekturzentrum Wien (Az W), la Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine of Paris (la Cité), the Suomen Rakennustaiteen Museo of Helsinki (SRM), the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut of Rotterdam (NAi) and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum of Frankfurt (DAM). Jahrhunderts, einen Brückenbauer zwischen Moderne und Postmoderne: Jürgen Mayer-Hermann, der mit 45 Jahren bereits prominent im New Yorker Museum of Modern Art vertreten ist. Der Film von Claudius Gehr beleuchtet die Arbeit der J. MAYER H. Architekten. 1996 von Jürgen Mayer H. in Berlin gegründet, arbeitet das Büro an den Schnittstellen von Architektur, Kommunikationsdesign und Neuen Technologien. Dabei spielt der Einsatz interaktiver Medien und responsiver Materialien eine zentrale Rolle bei der Produktion von Raum. Aktuelle Projekte sind der Neubau einer Mensa der Hochschulen Karlsruhe, die Villa Dupli.Casa nahe Ludwigsburg, Metropol Parasol – die Neugestaltung der Plaza de la Encarnacion in Sevilla, das Bürohaus AdA1 in Hamburg und die Erweiterung des Wissenschaftsparks Danfoss Universe in Nordborg, Dänemark. In kooperativen Teams wird, von Installationen bis zu städtebaulichen Entwürfen und internationalen Wettbewerben, multidisziplinäre Raumforschung zum Verhältnis von Körper, Natur und Technologie erarbeitet und realisiert. STRIP @ Interni Legacy 2012
Data-Protection-Pattern on Carpet by J. MAYER H. With the installation "STRIP" J. MAYER H. has developed a walk-on installation for the Loggiato at Ex-Ospedale Maggiore of Milan during Salone di Mobile 2012. The Floor of the Loggiato on the first floor is covered with a 50 meter long rug, printed with oversized data security patterns. STRIP invites visitors to promenade, flaneur and hang out in a playful scenario of fluffy graphics. Completion of Construction
The Police Station and the House of Justice / Civic Centre in Georgia are finished with construction works. Both projects are situated in of the old town of Mestia. The beautiful medieval town with its stone defensive towers is part of UNESCO's list of World. 12.04.2012
