SATELLIGHTat Marrakech Biennale 2012, Morocco HIGHER ATLAS, Curated by Carson Chan & Nadim Samman J. MAYER H. Material: found data protection pattern, perforated metal, structural support in metal and concrete |
A layer of satellite dishes covers the old city of Marrakesh as a communication crust, – a window to the digital world and social media so crucial to the current dynamic transformations. Satellight is a dysfunctional satellite dish made with a found Arabic numbers dataprotection pattern in handcrafted perforated metal. Oversized and displaced it echoes a complex relationship between Arabic numbers, data protection patterns, Islamic geometries and the numerics of contemporary communication and social interactivity. ![]() |
